This dataset is the glacier movement velocity of glacier No.1 in Urumqi River source, Tianshan Mountain, 1985-1999.The surface movement velocity of glacier No.1 is measured by precision optical latitude and longitude instrument and total station, the former, from the control point on the glacier to the flower pole laid inside the ice to repeat the forward rendezvous, to calculate by the coordinate method, and to find out the spatial displacement of the flower pole (the body of the ice) in a unit of time and obtain it. Observations are made once a year in May at the beginning of the ablation and once a year at the end of August at the end of the ablation, so that flow velocity information can be obtained for the ablation period and for the whole year. In the latter case, the observation of the speed of movement on the glacier surface is measured using a total station, and the spatial displacement of the ice body per unit of time is calculated by the coordinate method from the control points K1 and K2 on the measuring rods laid on the glacier surface. This dataset is primarily a record of glacier movement velocities (summer, winter and annual velocities).

Velocity of glacier movement, the distance traveled by a glacier per unit of time. Because glaciers move very slowly, the unit is often measured in centimeters per day and night or kilometers per year. It is calculated by field measurements or by some empirical formulas.
The spatial displacement of the ice body per unit time is calculated by the coordinate method.
Data quality is good.
